Supreme Court Decision Proves Fed’s Gift to Big Pharma Unnecessary
“Evergreening” of drug patents should not have been allowed under previous rules |

| A decision rendered today by Canada’s Supreme Court proves that the federal government’s recent changes to drug patent rules amount to little more than a multi-million dollar gift to brand-name drug companies at the expense of taxpayers, provincial governments and consumers, Jim Keon, President of the Canadian Generic Pharmaceutical Association (CGPA) said today.

Generic drugs in Québec: Spin-offs totalling more than $1 billion |

| The Canadian Generic Pharmaceutical Association (CGPA) released the results of a study today on the economic impact of the Québec generic drug industry, which indicate a contribution of more than $1 billion to the economy. According to the study conducted by Stratem Inc., the direct and indirect annual contribution of generic drugs breaks down as $287 million in salaries, $507 million in the purchase of goods and services, and $400 million in savings for the healthcare system. | read more... |
